We've All Got Religion

Several discussions of religion take place here and in other mediums across the movement. Some maintain that religion is incompatible with the concept of a “Resource Based” economic model. Others feel that religion and religious belief will simply take on other less organized and personal forms as the bulk of the population becomes more educated and less subject to indoctrination. It seems to me to be more important to reduce the question to its lowest terms, and to look at the tendency to become rigid and unwavering in ANY belief as the root of the issue.

The important thing is to realize that there is a more dangerous religion being perpetuated in the world. It is one that drives the others into a specific direction. It uses organized religions to control and manipulate the world's population and keep us divided against one another. It is the religion of "monetarism".

Yes, it fits the definition of a religion exactly. This god is known as the "invisible hand" of the market. He is a vengeful and selfish god. He takes pleasure in the destruction of children and the weak, as outlined in the "bible" of the capitalist. (i.e., The Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations: Adam Smith)

Smith states in Book 1, Chapter 8, verse 39 of the chapter titled: Of the Wages of Labour:

"Every species of animals naturally multiplies in proportion to the means of their subsistence, and no species can ever multiply beyond it. But in civilised society it is only among the inferior ranks of people that the scantiness of subsistence can set limits to the further multiplication of the human species; and it can do so in no other way than by destroying a great part of the children which their fruitful marriages produce."

In other words, the wealthy are not subject to such laws. They are immune. The "inferior races" or the "race of laborers" as Smith calls them, are the ones who must suffer and sacrifice their children so that "supply" can come into balance with "demand".

This is an unquestionable and dogmatic stance that still pervades our thinking today. Anyone who questions the system or its principles is deemed a "heretic" or a communist or socialist. Only a religion has such rigid and unquestionable tenets.

Also, it (the system) is believed to be the "only way to salvation" by its followers. This belief is maintained regardless of the volumes of information that shows the invalidity of this belief. "Blind faith" is the only way to maintain hope that a world full of self-interested profit seekers can somehow produce a world that is equitable and sustainable.

If that isn't religion, then I don't know what is.
