Some say that President Carter was not a strong enough president. He was president for only one term. Things did not go well but he had the vision to set the speed limit down to 55 mph, just for us to save some money on gas. I think that was a good thing. There were also fewer accidents due to the fact that everyone was forced to drive slower. Even at this time, that is a good idea.

At this time, we are seeing the winds blowing toward war in the minds of the GOP candidates. But is it not a good idea in the minds of those who, because they are poor, will find themselves enlisting to fight against a so-called enemy which has not declared war against us and has not threatened to invade our soil.

A lot of the GOP base has bought into the idea that if the GOP wins, gas prices will go down, but experts on the subject say that the price of gas is not a matter of the party in power. It is a matter of speculation. Although it may be true that with Bush gas prices were up for a while, they went down and they started going up after he left office. But it is not because of policies or the state of the economy. Experts have alerted us that the situation in Europe, Greece, and the Middle East is the only cause of the high prices of oil. Any oil that is drilled, even in the U.S., goes to the world market because that is the capitalism way. Who actually benefits from gas prices when they are high? In a capitalist country like ours, the benefits go to those with stock options in the oil and gasoline companies. Therefore speculators have the say on that. The U.S. congress does not want to regulate them, so we will have the high prices because it is another way in which the GOP wants Obama to fail.

Those who are for war may be catering to the Military Industrial Complex. Their shareholders will be the only ones who will benefit from any war.
I often wonder: If there was a war and not one of our young people would show up to fight it, will those who will profit from it the most send their own children to fight it??
