Beats for change

After a really long night working at the hospital I headed towards home, slept a couple of hours and caught everything I needed for the event we had been preparing for in the last weeks... I checked the videos for the last time and drove to 'Teatro México' which is the best acoustically designed stage in the city, one of the most representatives venues in the Town and certainly a very beautiful place to visit, even if you do it virtually.

I was anxious; a month ago or so we received a call from Miguel, the bassist of Descomunal, a local hardcore metal band that shared the stage with hundreds of bands like Fear Factory, Obituary, As I Lay Dying, Poison the Well, The Black Dahlia Murder, Morbid Angel, Heaven Shall Burn, Paura, Confronto, Korzus, Grito, El Sagrado, Molotov, Plastilina Mosh, Avulsed, The Addicts, to name a few...

Why did he call? 'In 2012 the band celebrates 10 years of existence' he said 'and we want Zeitgeist to be part of it'. We were extremelly happy to hear that; we had been preparing our small local Zeitgeist Media Festival and suddenly we were part of this great event!

Several members from both the band and the movement held several meetings to discuss the best way to broadcast a positive message in this ten-year anniversary concert. So, long story short, we presented three videos during the concert, we managed to destroy some TVs (thanks to TZM members who provided the needed material) and at the very end of it, when there was a lot of emotional charge in the audience we presented this interview:

We were really happy because it talked about our current global issues, the focus needed to change it and, even more important, how art is shaping culture in order to accomplish this goal. I personally paused the video at the end of it; I saw how their eyes were absorbing the powerful quote by Ernst Fischer and yes, this was truthful art.

As if this was not enough, the band included in their last album 'Descomunal vs. The Walkind Dead Orchestra' a free DVD compiled by the ecuadorian chapter of the zeitgeist movement which includes:
- Zeitgeist Addendum by Peter Joseph
- Zeitgeist Moving Forward by Peter Joseph
- Our Technical Reality by Douglas Mallette
...and others.

We want to publically thank the metal band Descomunal for this important step in spreading the message of science applied for social concern and all the work they do awakening the youth to new realities still under construction.
