Another Avenue for Raising awareness

All of us here love to write at great length about the RBE and the vast spectrum of issues surrounding what we should be doing to help get us there faster. But when it comes to convincing the wider public, we have a common problem: we can easily leave people behind or alienate them with our seemingly radical ideals that challenge the boundaries of the paradigm box to which they cling as a comfort zone. People have that infuriating tendency to put irrational labels on an idea, drawn from their perceptions of failed ideologies from the past - and once that spanner falls into the works, it jams fast. "No, we must protect the Precious!" we hear them cry.
But the seeds of an RBE-centric consciousness have already been planted in the subconscious minds of millions in the form of metaphors from our popular movie culture.
'Pleasantville' captures the awakening to a new paradigm, and the prejudice and fear that will resist that transition. 'Avatar' is Free Market growth versus sustainability. The Matrix is the embodiment of the phrase 'there are none so hopelessly enslaved as those who believe they are free'. Perhaps the most powerful metaphor of all is Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' in which Lord Sauron is the incorporeal malevolence that corrupts and binds all those who embrace his currency, irrespective of how well intentioned their motives were in the beginning. Even the dreaded Ring-Wraiths were originally Kings of men seeking to forge greater prosperity for all through economic union.
Numerous appreciation groups exist for such films. Perhaps we should consider approaching them, and highlight the parallels between the struggles of the protagonists from those stories, and those of us seeking to phase out the monetary system today? Have a think about who you could write, email or blog to, whose passion for a particular film, show or book could be cultivated into support for TZM.
In my recent letters to Peter Jackson and James Cameron, I raised these parallels and asked if they would give their public support to a Resource-based Earth. In the Zeitgeist UK writing campaign page http://www.facebook.com/groups/147352655376933/152031694909029/ you can contribute to or copy from a library of letters to get through to the right people, and start planting ideas in interesting places...
