A Resource Based Economy - the Beginning

A Resource Based Economy - the Beginning

- by Dror Hilman -
In a world of accelerated and unexpected development, we should start to separate from the models that dominated society over the past century, and get ready for a dramatic change. What will the new paradigm look like? It is impossible to predict exactly. But here are some changes borne on the wings of the new technological revolution, signaling to us what the transition period might look like. An era where money and politics are still important, but less so..

On Advancing The Zeitgeist Movement

On Advancing The Zeitgeist Movement

A large criticism of The Zeitgeist Movement is one of practicality. This is demonstrated in the general public broadly in two different ways – the first, a criticism of the movement being impossible to implement is an expression of what could be considered learned helplessness.

Free Will and Mastering your Environment

Free Will and Mastering your Environment

Does the environment create the man, or does the man create his environment?

As many scientific studies show, the environment we grow up in affects the type of person we become--from our genes to our personality to our looks. The foods we eat and our emotional responses to certain events in our lives also shape us. This may seem to thwart the whole “free will” argument, and to a greater or lesser extent it does. Thieves, murderers, rapists, and the like are brought up in an environment where such behaviors can occur.

To Vote? Or Not to Vote?

To Vote? Or Not to Vote?

A Resource Based Economy is inevitable.

One way or another, we will end up in an RBE. Technological unemployment, molecular manufacturing and abundant renewable energy will destroy the labor, material and energy costs of production. The price system will lose all relevance in everyday life. A moneyless society will become more and more intuitive to the general public as the years go by. Our job is simply to lubricate the process to ensure a smooth transition.

Family

Family

The word or idea of "family" is so universal and accepted it would almost seem that any discussion on it would have to be personal. I believe the idea of family, however, is quite a bit more complicated (or at least should be) than what it may seem.

Family is essentially just the blood connection between people, so it is basically the sharing of genetic material. Why is it then that we have such a large emotional connection to family? (Or at least the majority of people have or are expected to.)

Out-and-out liars or Outliers?

Out-and-out liars or Outliers?

Often heard in our modern tale of triumph, like Perseus slaying Medusa, is the glossy version of a business person who has beat all odds to become the most successful, most imitated, and ultimately, the most wealthy in their field. Heavy books are written about them—can you go into a bookstore without having Steve Jobs stare you down? The almighty business heroes comprise the bulk of our mythos that feed the global capitalist imagination. Warren Buffet. Oprah. Bill Gates. They don’t even need a full sentence because you already know their stories.

The Zeitgeist Movement and the Intelligence Explosion

The Zeitgeist Movement and the Intelligence Explosion

To me, the Zeitgeist Movement is about promoting low entropy, rationality, cooperation, freedom, equality, sustainability, unity and about decreasing existential risks for humanity - and ultimately about implementing a new socioeconomic system based on those virtues, and thus based on what is reasonable from a technological and ecological - not a monetary - point of view.

The friendly way

The friendly way

I've been watching the Zeitgeist movement for quite a while now and I am wondering about one thing: Why haven't we already left the market and created the new society?

I've found some attempts to get things going, but most of them were either just for self supply or hobby projects. The new cooperative society which is required to maintain the high-tech resource based economy still seems to be missing. So why isn't this great idea already causing a world-wide transition?

Let's look at the requirements for the new economy:

From Basic Income to Resource Based Economy

From Basic Income to Resource Based Economy

It has been a while since I saw this video for the first time and since then, I keep thinking about all the implications of such a simple solution. I have examined our banking system, our taxes, some reform proposals, local exchange trading systems (LETS – e.g. RiverHOURS or Fourth Corner Exchange) and came to a conclusion that the real problem is in income-distribution and money-flow.

The times they are a-changing

The times they are a-changing

OCTOBER 16TH 2011 (English translation October 10th 2012 by Josefien Bruijn) - In a world where the laws of the monetary-economic game bring us debt and the artificial necessity of profit, this game leaves us with real or perceived scarcity, harsh social inequality, segregation and ecological breakdown, each of which will have its own disastrous consequences.
