A 65 year old man lives near me. Physically fit and socially active, he is able to live independently. He has lived in his home for 26 years and has earned his living through a specialized trade. Business has been steady for him for most of his time as a craftsman, until a few years back. Since that time, he has struggled to make ends meet. He has been, as far as I can tell, mostly generous with his neighbors and his church community. What he lacks in intellectual volume, he makes up for in heart dimensions.

This article doesn't pretend to be the guide for the transition, but a prospective view on it. On the issue of how to reach a resource-based economy (the transition) there is a wide variety of possibilities. Probably the key to change begins with changing how we interact with the monetary system every day.

Among the most extremist -and extremely ignorant- of the anti-science crowd you will come across statements such as this: "But evolution is only a theory." Indeed, but scratch the only. In science, the terms Hypothesis, Model, Theory and Law are indeed gradations in a scale but they certainly do not share their colloquial meaning or hierarchy. If you think a scientific theory ever becomes a law or a fact you may need to read the following. Let's go back to the basics.

Classical economists are used to making the claim that vast economic growth is mainly the result of the application of the market system as designed by Adam Smith since around 1800, followed by the specific monetary systems introduced during the 20th century. As an argument, they show that GDP growth levels were a lot higher after 1800 than before 1800, implying a significant increase of ‘welfare’ due to the market system.

I’d like to start off by asking some questions which I thought since I was asking myself, I’d ask the movement as well:

Are we interested in starting totally from scratch, or for the experts in these areas which already exist, to use their expertise and teach others how to do it? (As far as the material and technical needs). It may seem like a totally obvious question but I thought I would still ask because what may seem like one thing can be another. The latter can result in another system of total dependency sort of like we see now if not carefully assessed.

I used to consider frequently is the lack of universal verbal compatibility among people on this planet. I find it astonishing that, in an age of jet-engines and high-speed internet, most of us are still completely incapable of communicating with the people even one continent over.
