Good Exists

Good Exists

Everybody agrees that there is too much ‘Bad’ in the world. It’s all over the media. The news seems to be full of bad in one form or another. There are a few happy news reports, but they seem buried under all the muck.

But good is there, it just needs to be fostered. Our mindset is all wrong. Monetary systems foster and nurture all of our negative behaviors and in many cases amplify them.

Political Parties & RBE Transition

Political Parties & RBE Transition

Forming a political party that exemplifies the Zeitgeist Movement's ideals has been a hotly debated topic for as long as the Movement has been around. However, given the apolitical and leaderless nature of the Movement, the global requirements of the Resource Based Economic Model (RBEM), and all of the hurdles and distractions that come along with forming a political party from scratch, it simply doesn't make much strategic sense.

Building a Creative Economy - Transition to a Sustainable Economy

Adapted from a presentation delivered at the Building a Creative Economy conference in Sydney on 29th October 2011.

I remember when I was little I asked my mum what her religion was. She told me that she didn’t have any religion per se, but that she felt connected to a particular philosophy – that of the native American Indians. She explained that she did not worship any god, but worshiped the earth in the sense that she felt compelled to nurture that which sustains life.

Evolution and the debt crisis; Is it time to adapt?

Evolution and the debt crisis; Is it time to adapt?

(FWC press release for UK and Irish media, June 2012)

The Free World CharterHow are we going to resolve the global debt crisis and restore economic stability and growth? It seems like everyone has an opinion on this question, but so far, no-one has been able to offer a credible, universally-accepted solution to put our financial 'humpty-dumpty' back together again. We have the world's best minds working on the problem, yet the only solution they have come up with so far is to just print more money - and you don't need a degree in economics to know how unsustainable or even perilous an idea that is.

What about “Democracy” in an R.B.E.?

Before we begin, the subject of social participation in an R.B.E. is extensive, and to those unfamiliar with other discussions of this issue in our materials it can seem complex and foreign. It isn’t the scope of this essay to be definitive as it would be substantially long. The following presents a basic overview along with select points for consideration.

Slay Santa

Slay Santa

Nearly six months ago now, a few friends from the Glasgow city chapter and I were out on the streets in the city centre to do a little culture-jamming in the form of a Yuletide anti-consumerism campaign. As usual, with not much time set aside for planning and gathering resources for anything special, we were doing our standard flyer-distribution and chatting that we had done for the last two years, albeit with a couple of new flyers that I designed with the help of some friends.

Structural Dishonesty

Structural Dishonesty

I work in a warehouse where we receive refrigerators and stoves from manufacturers, perform quality control on them, attach some standards stickers and company logos to them and then sell them as our own products. We are the very definition of a middle-man, and sad will be the day when the retailers and manufacturers realize that they could get by without us. But for the time being we facilitate things well enough to be a profitable business.

The Economics of Sustainability – A Comparison of Economic Models

The Economics of Sustainability – A Comparison of Economic Models

Our current economic paradigm is one in which the continuous acquisition of monetary wealth and material resources is both demanded and valued. In many of the wealthier nations economic growth has come at great cost to indigenous populations who were invaded and usurped, and to other nations who suffered the looting of their resources as they were colonized. In some cases populations suffered by literally being enslaved for the sake of generating further wealth for the already powerful owners of capital.

Daily Telegraph: Forest Boy ‘inspired by Zeitgeist movement’ – A Rebuttal

*This is a repost of an article written on Fathers Day 2012*

If you happen to order fish and chips at any point tomorrow in the UK, amongst the greasy second-hand newspaper used to line the take-away box, you might catch sight of a bent corner of an article by Damien McElroy of The Telegraph on the mysterious story of “Forest Boy”, a young man named Robin Van Helsum, a 20-year old from Hengelo in the Netherlands.
