Methodologies for awareness-creating interventions

Dear All,
I have been wondering how to spread awareness and understanding of the necessity and potential of the movement. What about those who are difficult to reach, caught in their life, never assuming they could do anything? I want people to understand that they need to become the change they want to see and hence to see themselves as creators. But what avenues will bring that to light?

Perhaps it is me talking to them about how to improve and enhance the world? Or rather, having them explain to me how to achieve these improvements and enhancements; while I not only listen but carefully guide them by furthering, questioning and amending their points. But how do I do this exactly?

So, with my little knowledge about how humans function and my background in peer-to-peer consultation work with young adults, I have put together these methodologies.
Please consider them for what they are: a mere proposal. Please contribute with your ideas and experiences to help these methodologies grow.

product earth - customer survey

"It only takes as long as you want."

aims

  1. shift of perception: customer --> creator
  2. shift of emotion: hate/fear --> love/freedom
  3. opening minds toward possible solutions (and acknowledging that 'patching' is insufficient)
  4. clearly differentiate: cause vs. symptoms
  5. finally: people finding their ideas with and alongside those of the movement (with the realization that we are aiming for the same solution and "ideal" society)

We want to avoid confusion by perceiving only a limited group to be solely "responsible" or "guilty". We want to primarily focus on the solution, and therefore one needs to understand the logic of cause and consequence/symptom.

methodology

There seems to be some contradictions: On the one hand we want to create awareness of the oneness of all beings and that individual opinions do not actually influence the world (not as considerably as the laws of nature that is). On the other hand, we need to keep in mind that people feel better when given attention and listened to. And also, it is known that learning is far more effective when one gets to the point oneself instead of simply absorbing another's opinions, in other words: when one personally understands a fact. Bearing this in mind and understanding the need to first move the social conditions forward and thereafter move forward the mind [or rather acknowledging that the former will bring about the latter], this contradiction dissolves.

- create a customer survey in a well visited, public place (town, park, pedestrian area, ...). Consider this for your set:

  • Eye-catching design (Have a huge balloon representing the earth, paint your faces, ...)
  • approach people actively ("Hello, we want to improve our product earth and need your ideas. And it only takes as long as you want!")
  • create a comfort zone (mobile pavilion, chairs/stand-up bistro tables, nice music (maybe live?), ...)
  • make it look professional (have a clipboard, name tags, similar outfits, ...)

Please adjust this guideline to whatever situation you may find. It is important, that people are attracted by the design, willing to spent a little time with you and feeling free to change their minds (or to even just go away). This last particular point is to be emphasized again: Only when a person feels well and not attacked she or he is able to start thinking and changing. Please find the remarks on the set further down.

- The customers are to be asked whether satisfied by the product earth. (It hopefully came to their realization that there are some difficulties we are facing... If not, point them to objective fact [such as war, indebtedness, environmental pollution, exploitation/social injustice, ...] to avoid them being related to say a religious or commercial topic [them being catholic or feeling linked to a big company]. Again: do not attack the "guilty ones" [actually rather to be called symptoms anyway], since we want to provide the solution!) {aim: 4}

- now ask positive, open questions that raise interest and creativity: "What do you want the product earth 2.0 to be like?" [more freedom, more equality, more harmony, focus on important things in live (family and friends), more knowledge/education, better health, "more love on earth", recovered nature, ...], "What would your life be like?"...
This serves to gain distance to What-Is-Now, create the general template that the next step is compared to and to generally make them feel good ("Actually, my word counts." or "They are listening to me!" but also: "Although they might have an idea, they are still listening." and "They are listening, so I better listen and learn from them, too."). {aims: 1, 2, 3}
Remarks: You can provide printed material for them to take their points down.

- The main part follows: They have to answer the question "How can we achieve that?" Introduce this part with something like "It might now be a bit difficult to answer as there is no 'right or wrong' so please accept that I will question what you propose. And, as we are a diverse culture, we might have to generalize a bit and find the basic-needs and root-causes."
Your task now is to filter everything said to the point. Something like "We must all believe in God and follow his rules." might be broken down to "We need 'something' that will guide our lives and actions to be/become good." (same for laws, state, ...) or "We have to vote more often." interpreted as "We want to participate", "We must get rid of our debt" to "We must become free of unnecessary pressure/dictatorship", "We must raise taxes on money trade." meaning "We want to achieve a higher level of equality.", ... Do this extracting after each proposed 'solution' and ask for agreement to make people feel being engaged with and accepted and even more important: to avoid the feeling of being tricked. Be sensible for an insecure facial expression, and ask whether something needs to be clarified. (Please find the section 'consider' further down.) Taking notes might be useful.
Later on, try to find answers to above points together. What do we actually need that controls us? Everyone around us (mutual respect, accepting interdependencies). How can we participate? Through (access to) knowledge, equality (free of hierarchy), ... {aims: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5}
Remarks: use the ideas/aims of the Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement to find a bridge. It is vital that all ideas are appreciated and dealt with. The 'customer' has the last word and it is important that she or he feels this (but of course you can go on questioning before the agreement on the wording of the extracted/filtered/interpreted solution.)

- Compare the solutions to the template created earlier. Does the solution lead there? (Hopefully the answer to this question is mostly a 'yes', otherwise that methodology didn't work!) If not, why not? (Especially if point was proposed by the 'customer' to give an idea of 'that solution did not go far enough'.) The customer is given the list he or she wrote down to answer the questions. {aim: 3}

- Introduce the Resource Based Economy, the Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement and answer questions. (There might be a few.) {aim: 5}

Remarks on the set:

Depending on the situation and your capacity it may or may not make sense to apply a certain detail above (e.g. the tables). Furthermore, please consider that, without tables, taking notes on a clipboard may as well not be satisfying over time. So be sensible on what to use and what to combine.
If you can set up a pavilion or a similar set, it might be a good idea to have several of your group dealing with the survey and a few to approach the people to be most efficient. You may want to place the tables and the people such that the 'customers' are seen from the outside to make them feel free to leave at any point, to make them feel comfortable ("Everyone can see me being engaged.") and of course attracting more people ["look, that guy in that pavilion seems to be fine and to have a good time discussing and to be taken seriously and to be seen by everyone." :) ]. It might as well be a good idea to get several people to work together on the questions for mutual contribution. Armchairs or couches for those who want to stay and talk might just be perfect.
The need to make it look professional is born to answer the behavior of judging everything that is not close to ones identity.
Have a Laptop showing videos about the Venus Project, e.g. "Our Technical Reality" (by Douglas Mallette) on YouTube or other introductory films advocating the Venus Project and proofing its feasibility.

consider:

"Be the change you want to see in the world" is a categorical imperative to you, too! Be nice [of course ;)], speak positively [enhances comprehensibility], ask for reasons instead of "why" [this will provide that people feel free to answer the question for a reason from their own point of view without just justifying their behavior.] Instead of judging people (or even people's opinions) take people from where they are now. This frees the mind and gets them out of defending their behavior. Make people feel appreciated and accepted and loved. Only then you can initialize change that goes deeper into their consciousness(es).

Underground

You may know beggars in the underground approaching you for money. Raise this to a new level: beg for attention.

aims

  1. people to accept their possibilities to effect change
  2. create awareness and curiosity toward solution finding
  3. people to be confronted with a new reality

This methodology is quite flexible: you may stop at any point after the 'begging' or go on depending on your capacities and the situation.

methodology

- get in an underground that is not overcrowded. At some point beg for attention with a nice, short and provoking speech ("Today, I don't want to become rich, myself, but make you rich.", "Today, I don't want to have money, I rather want to give money up.", ...) - say something like "there is a solution out there: to your problems financially, socially, psychologically, and so forth. Join the movement. Change happens now." or "Dear fellows, I have a problem I cannot solve on my own. And I am sure this challenge will affect all of us: how can we make our world a better place?"

- you can now offer for interested people to join you having a seat and discuss further, introduce the Resource-Based Economic Model, the Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement and answer questions.
