The Labour Movement: Breaking an Old Paradigm

The Labour Movement: Breaking an Old Paradigm

“The synergetic aspect of industry’s doing ever more work with ever less investment of time and energy per each unit of performance...has never been formally accounted as a capital gain of land-situated society. The synergistic effectiveness of a world-around integrated industrial process is inherently vastly greater than the confined synergistic effect of sovereignly operating separate systems. Ergo, only complete world desovereignization can permit the realization of an all humanity high standard support.”
-R. Buckminster Fuller

The Zombie as Barometer of Capitalist Anxiety

The Zombie as Barometer of Capitalist Anxiety

The modern incarnation of the zombie, as seen strewn across pop culture horror novels and films in ever-increasing numbers, is easily recognized and radically different from its historical roots; any member of our modern Western culture can spot the gray, often rotting flesh, the black eyes, the dishevelled appearance, the shuffling gait, the wretched moaning, and, of course, the bloody mouths flecked with fresh flesh and detritus.

The Root of All Evil?

The Root of All Evil?

Toward the end of the '70s and early '80s I began to be preoccupied with the problem of justice and injustice. I began to realize that there could be no justice in this world with the working people being exploited. They were getting meager earnings while their exploiters were enjoying the benefits of their hard labor.

A Resource Based Economy - the Beginning

A Resource Based Economy - the Beginning

- by Dror Hilman -
In a world of accelerated and unexpected development, we should start to separate from the models that dominated society over the past century, and get ready for a dramatic change. What will the new paradigm look like? It is impossible to predict exactly. But here are some changes borne on the wings of the new technological revolution, signaling to us what the transition period might look like. An era where money and politics are still important, but less so..

The friendly way

The friendly way

I've been watching the Zeitgeist movement for quite a while now and I am wondering about one thing: Why haven't we already left the market and created the new society?

I've found some attempts to get things going, but most of them were either just for self supply or hobby projects. The new cooperative society which is required to maintain the high-tech resource based economy still seems to be missing. So why isn't this great idea already causing a world-wide transition?

Let's look at the requirements for the new economy:

Beyond Money: Notes on Neoliberalism and its Alternative

In our modern world of reality television, smartphones, and Wal-Mart, it is easy for one to forget that there is a network of influences and power structures that direct the course of our daily lives as individuals and as a society.

It’s The Distribution System, Stupid!

It’s The Distribution System, Stupid!

ancient egyptian plowingIn his popular book Guns, Germs & Steel, geographer Jared Diamond traces the rise of agriculture creating a surplus food supply, which allowed specialization of labor, leading to human civilization. All consequent economic developments, from private property to derivatives, concern this issue of distributing a society’s surplus.

Beyond Capitalism - Looking To The Future

What's wrong with capitalism?

You will (or should!) already know what capitalism is, so I won't waste your time explaining it. In this part of the post I'm referring to the current corporate-capitalist system that prevails throughout most of the world. To give you a heads up, my criticisms of capitalism are split into three key sections - inequality and poverty perpetuated by capitalism, the instability and un-sustainability of capitalism, and finally what I see as the immorality of capitalism.

The Quandary of Technology

Humankind has been the master of technology since its humble beginnings. Actually, our ability to use higher brain functions in order to create and handle tools is essentially what sets us apart as a species, however able some other apes may be. Our creativity defines us and whatever we choose to do with it will mark the progress of our civilization. After all, technology is no longer defined only by useful tools of creation, but by weapons of destruction too.
